Pandora: Delivering YOUR Radio Station
I came home this afternoon to be wowed by one of the most exciting products, most gratifying online listening experience, most statisfying customer experience, I've had...period. End of story. Am I excited? A little bit.
Pandora lets you create your own radio station from suggestions you provide it. I entered "life without you", an obscure tune from Stevie Ray Vaughn I heard this week. Based on that they were to recommend me similar tunes...and WHY. Here's the tune I'm listening to now from their recommendation: I went to the hospital, Cass McComb, on his "A" cd. Here's why Pandora recommended it: "electric rock instrumentation, mild rhythmic syncopation, major key tonality..."
BAM! Yep. It's a great song. And it's one I'd never have found...
Pandora is part of the Music Genome Project. I found out about this from David Hornik's Venture Blog post called Pandora and Persistence. He'll describe the journey of Tim Westergren to create Savage Beast that led to way to categorize music he labeled the Music Genome Project.
It's a great story by Mr. Hornik. Thank you for sharing. Thank Tim for creating a wonderfully pleasant experience this afternoon, a delightful surprise. Please apologize to my wife as dinner's (the dinner I promised her as her surprise) is not going to be ready for awhile as I savor your product. She loves me. She'll love me more for finding Pandora.
UPDATE: I emailed their customer service with a problem. I couldn't hear the songs. It wasn't their fault. Problem's on my end. BUT...Chris their CS rep came back by email in about 3-4 minutes with a very professional note asking about my settings, apologizing (hey, it wasn't their fault...) and offering assistance. A service that works AND prompt, courteous, professional customer service. Gracious...this company's going to do well.
I have to say this: THIS is the Pandora's box that should have been opened...back in the day.
