The Failure of VISTA

Friday's we talk about failure. (Oddly, when I typed that first sentence I wrote Vista instead of failure. A portent, perhaps).

Google Vista Failure. You get 738,000 results. Granted, it's a big bucket Google uses for search terms. But Google Vista's + failure...you get 963,000 results. And to show how quirky these results are if you Google Vista's + success you'll see 1.8 million results. Peeking through these results the conversation turns to failure qute often after the first paragraph or the article's written pre-release...in 2006.

Maybe the biggest search result is the banner headline on the front page of the NY Times this morning. It cited CNet's viewe of VISTA: Vista...one of the biggest blunders in technology.  Clicking the banner, I expected to be taken to the Cnet site. Instead I was taken to Apple's site.

Now that's a failure. When your biggest product upgrade, the one that applies to oh 56% of your revenues (and with Microsoft that's a bit more than pocket change) turns into banner headlines for your competition....that's a failure.

Sahhhhlooot.

Now the learning process begins. We'll have to wait on that.
